Kenya loses regional fuel traffic to Tanzania over contamination
The newspaper reports about regional fuel traffic in East Africa. It is reported that Kenya has lost the regional fuel traffic to Tanzania due to contamination. Government measures to enhance efficiency at Dar es Salaam port seems to be paying off as it is now taking business from the rival port of Mombasa in Kenya due to poor management. Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) chief executive officer Alfayo Otuke was quoted saying, ‘’it is their feel our fuel is contaminated and presence of unscrupulous traders.’’ There are cases where some load transporters siphon fuel, add other products and when it gets to the destination countries, it is found to be adulterated. This has resulted for other neighbouring country to stop using the Mombasa port and opted for the Dar es salaam port.
