Agricultural marketing and supply chain management in Tanzania
This paper provides an overview of the agriculture value chain and the challenges observed at each node and the market in its entirety. The scope of the study was limited to Morogoro (surplus area), Mtwara (producing area) and Dar es Salaam (main consumer market). The goal was to investigate poverty implications on trade facilitation efforts by comparing the areas with high poverty with affluent areas i.e. Dar es Salaam. Three constraints are discovered; inadequate physical infrastructure, lack of expertise and capital, and weak institutional framework. Policy recommendations are provided for the government to facilitate free trade and market liberalization.
